September is Organic Month in Canada – a time to celebrate organic food and farming across the country.
Organic Month is also an opportunity to reflect on the important role of research in advancing organic agriculture! Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing new articles highlighting recent research findings from OSC4 researchers and their contributions to developing innovative approaches for organic production.
To start, check out “Microencapsulated Sprayable Pheromones Offer a New Approach to Blackheaded Fireworm Management.”
This research explores trials of an organically approved, microencapsulated pheromone formulation for managing blackheaded fireworm in cranberry production. The formulation can be applied using conventional farm spraying equipment and reapplied during periods of blackheaded fireworm moth flight. This approach could make pheromone-based management more practical for cranberry growers compared with previous dispensing systems.
